Featuring a headline matchup between UFC Hall of Famers Randy Couture and Mark Coleman, the event concluded with 7,432 sold tickets and 3,321 complimentary tickets, while 84 tickets went unsold.

UFC 109 was held on February 6, 2010 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Gracie’s injured status was first made public by ADCC champion Braulio Estima in a report by mmajunkie.com.  BumpyKnuckle.com has since learned that Gracie was indeed injured, suffering a rib injury a month before the fight, and breaking his foot a week later which was confirmed via x-ray after the fight. 

However, according to Gracie’s camp, the BJJ black belt was willing to take the fight at any cost, despite the fact that he was forced to go light in training, which likely contributed to his lackluster performance at UFC 109. 

Gracie, making his debut for the organization earlier this month against Joey Beltran, was noticeably fatigued early, and succumbed to Beltran’s strikes in the second round.  He has since been released by the UFC.

Prior to UFC 109, Gracie had won all three of his bouts by first round submission.  His loss to Beltran was his first as a professional.

After a ten year absence from the Octagon, Coleman made his return at UFC 93 losing to Shogun Rua by technical knockout. He came back from the loss to defeat Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100, but after his recent domination at the hands of Randy Couture the 45-year old has been let go by the organization.

Similarly, Trigg made a comeback to the UFC after a four-year layoff and wasn’t able to find success. He was defeated twice by first round TKO, by Josh Koscheck at UFC 103, and then by Matt Serra at UFC 109.

Hague has only competed three times in the UFC, going 1-2 in the process. His loss by majority decision to Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 109 was his second in a row, previously losing to Todd Duffee in seven seconds at UFC 102.

In a bout to determine the number one contender in the middleweight division, Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt went to battle for three rounds, with Sonnen earning a unanimous decision victory and both fighters taking home “Fight of the Night” honors.

Brazilian Paulo Thiago was awarded “Submission of the Night,” choking out Mike Swick with a D’arce choke in the second round after dropping him with a left-right combination.

Former welterweight champion Matt Serra made quick work of Frank Trigg, scoring a first round technical knockout and receiving “Knockout of the Night” for his efforts.
