McGee vs. Jensen, Cote vs. Lawlor Set for UFC 121 Prelims on Spike

Spike TV will air selected preliminary bouts from UFC 121, including Court McGee vs. Ryan Jensen and Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor, beginning at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 23.

The Spike telecast will run for one-hour, leading up to the 10 p.m. ET pay-per-view portion of UFC 121 which takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The first fight scheduled to air is a middleweight contest between Canadian Patrick Cote (13-6) and Tom Lawlor (6-3 1NC).

Cote is coming off a submission loss to Alan Belcher at UFC 113, his first fight since coming back from knee surgery due to an injury he suffered during his title fight with Anderson Silva in October 2008.

Lawlor has lost his last two fights, to Aaron Simpson and Joe Doerksen. Previous to that, he had rattled off three consecutive wins, including a submission victory over C.B. Dollaway.

The evening’s second scheduled bout features TUF 11 winner Court McGee (11-1) taking on Ryan Jensen (16-5).

McGee will be making his first Octagon appearance since defeating Kris McCray in the TUF 11 Finale.

Jensen, meanwhile, earned “Submission of the Night” honors in his last appearance, choking out Jesse Forbes at UFC 114. Jensen is 2-4 overall in his UFC career.

Other bouts from the undercard may be broadcast, depending on the length of the first two fights.

Four Bouts Added to UFC 121 Undercard

The UFC today officially added four bouts to the undercard of the recently announced UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez event.

In his first matchup since defeating Kris McCray to become TUF 11 champion, Court McGee (11-1) will face Ryan Jensen (16-5). Jensen is coming off a submission victory over Jesse Forbes at UFC 114.

Patrick Cote (14-6) will be looking to get back in the win column as he takes on Tom Lawlor (6-3, 1NC) in a middleweight matchup.

Battling it out in the lightweight division will be Sam Stout (15-6-1) vs. England’s Paul Taylor (10-5-1).

Finally, veteran Mike Guymon (12-3-1) will take on Daniel Roberts (10-1) in the welterweight division.

Alan Belcher Signs New Four-Fight Contract; Faces Patrick Cote May 1st

Alan “The Talent” Belcher has signed a new four-fight contact with the UFC, which includes an upcoming bout against Patrick Cote on May 1st.

Both fighters announced they would be fighting via their personal Twitter accounts. Though not officially announced, the bout will take place in Montreal, Canada at UFC 113.

Belcher (14-5) defeated Wilson Gouveia last month by TKO at UFC 107. Prior to a controversial split decision loss to Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 100, Belcher had reeled-off consecutive victories over Ed Herman and Denis Kang. Since making his debut in the UFC in August 2006, the Mississippi-native has gone 6-4 in the organization.

His opponent, Cote (14-5), has been out of action since October 2008 when he blew-out his knee in the third round of his title fight against Anderson Silva. The injury required surgery, which put the Canadian on the sidelines indefinitely. Prior to his injury, Cote was on a four-fight win streak, including wins over Scott Smith, Kendall Grove, Drew McFedries, and Ricardo Almeida.

UFC 113 is tentatively scheduled to take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada on May 1, 2010. A rematch between light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is rumored to headline the event.
