Shields vs. Henderson Official as Strikeforce Heads to Tennessee

Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields and former Pride champion Dan Henderson will battle for the title on April 17th in Nashville, Tennesse broadcasting live on CBS.

Shields announced the bout via Twitter last night, and Strikeforce officials confirmed the news today.

Shields (24-4-1), who trains at Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in California, is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Jason “Mayhem” Miller in the organization’s first broadcast on CBS.  He has not lost since 2004, reeling off victory’s against several top fighters, including Robbie Lawler, Paul Daley, Carlos Condit, and Yushin Okami.

Henderson will be making his debut for Strikeforce after signing with the organization last year.  A veteran of both Pride and the UFC, Henderson is riding a three-fight win streak that includes a devastating one-punch knockout of Michael Bisping last July at UFC 100, his last appearance in the cage.

Also confirmed for the event is a light heavyweight title fight between former DREAM champion Gegard Mousasi (28-2-1) and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (6-0), as well as a lightweight championship bout between Gilbert Melendez (17-2) and Shinya Aoki (23-4), which will be the Japanese star’s U.S. debut.

“Strikeforce Nashville” takes place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee and will be broadcast at 9pm ET live on CBS.
