The UFC handed out their traditional “Fight of the Night,” Submission of the Night,” and “Knockout of the Night” awards for UFC 109 to the tune of $60,000 each.
In a bout to determine the number one contender in the middleweight division, Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt went to battle for three rounds, with Sonnen earning a unanimous decision victory and both fighters taking home “Fight of the Night” honors.
Brazilian Paulo Thiago was awarded “Submission of the Night,” choking out Mike Swick with a D’arce choke in the second round after dropping him with a left-right combination.
Former welterweight champion Matt Serra made quick work of Frank Trigg, scoring a first round technical knockout and receiving “Knockout of the Night” for his efforts.
