The Ultimate Fighting Championship has reserved the date of August 28th for their debut in the state of Massachusetts.
UFC president Dana White confirmed with the Boston Herald that they will be coming to Boston with a pay-per-view event to be held at the TD Garden.
“Believe me when I tell you, I’m gonna bring it back this summer,” White told the Herald. “I’m going to put on a show that’s going to blow the (expletive) roof off that place.”
Massachusetts recently became the 42nd state to pass legislation regulating MMA. White, who lived in Boston prior to moving to Las Vegas, has repeatedly professed his excitement of holding an event in his home state.
“You know how much this means to me and how long I’ve wanted to come there and how much I love the city of Boston,” White said.
Though no matchups for the event have been set, Massachusetts-natives Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon would be logical choices.
A rumored event at Boston’s Fenway Park has been ruled out for now, but White stated that it is still in the plans, likely to happen sometime in 2011.
TD Garden is home to the NBA’s Boston Celtics and the NHL’s Boston Bruins. It holds a maximum capacity of 19,580.
