Dan Henderson Officially Signs With Strikeforce

Former Pride champion and UFC contender Dan Henderson has officially signed a multi-fight agreement with the Strikeforce organization.

Strikeforce announced the news today, ending speculation that has surrounded Hendo since his contract with the UFC ended after his victory over Michael Bisping at UFC 100.

“I’m very happy to be a part of Strikeforce and their partnership with CBS and Showtime,” said Henderson. “Strikeforce and its growing roster of world class talent will offer me many exciting fights and has the ability to bring many new fans from all around the world to mixed martial arts. I am grateful to (Strikeforce Founder and CEO) Scott Coker for the opportunity to help make this happen and for treating me with the utmost respect throughout our negotiations.”

In his MMA career, the 39-year old fighter has amassed a record of 25-7, with victories over some of the top fighters in the world, including Wanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort, and Rich Franklin.

Henderson was considered a top contender in the UFC’s middleweight division, and openly lobbied for a rematch with champion Anderson Silva whom he previously lost to at UFC 82 in March of 2008. Though Hendo is now moving on, he had kind words for his former home.

“I’d also like to thank Dana (White) and the UFC for the opportunities they provided me and I wish them ongoing success,” Henderson said. “I’ll continue to watch their events and I hope they’ll tune in to my fights in Strikeforce. After all, I’m a true fan of our fantastic sport and would love only to see MMA continue to grow.”

Henderson’s return to the cage has not been set, but will be announced in the coming weeks.
