Wanderlei Silva could be making his debut in the UFC’s middleweight division against Yoshihiro Akiyama this coming February.
At a press conference held in Japan for the release of the UFC Undisputed video game, Akiyama was on hand and stated his next opponent will be Silva. However, no official statement has been released about the purported matchup.
Akiyama made his UFC debut at UFC 100 in July, narrowly defeating Alan Belcher by split decision.
Silva has not fought since losing to Rich Franklin in a catchweight bout at UFC 99 in June. He has gone 1-3 in the Octagon since rejoining the organization in December 2007.
The fight will likely take place at UFC 110 or UFC 111. Though not official, both events are tentatively scheduled to be held in February 2010.
