The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Episode Four Recap

The fourth episode of The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights was broadcast last night on Spike TV.

This week’s show opened with a recap of Kimbo’s loss at the hands of Roy Nelson.  Not ready to remove him from the spotlight yet, the show spent some time playing-up whether Kimbo may return in the future; continuing to show the physical ailments of fellow Team Rampage fighter Marcus Jones.

Team Evans remained in control after winning each fight thus far.  Consequently, Rashad and his coaches decided to bring in several of their fighters to discuss matchup possibilities.

They determined that Justin Wren would matchup best with Scott Junk.  Wren was brought in and agreed, but later returned to state that he and Junk are good friends and asked Evans to re-consider.  Evans–who’s stated he will never fight good friend Keith Jardine–understood Wren’s situation and then brought in Brendan Schaub to get his thoughts on a fight with Demico Rogers.  Schaub had no problem with the proposal and promised to smash Rogers if given the chance.

Lastly, Evans proposed that Matt Mitrione fight Marcus Jones.  Mitrione felt he could nullify Jones’ power and Evans felt confident that they could easily run the table this season.

Next, it became known within the house that Mitrione had told a member of Team Rampage about the proposed matchups and he was taken to task by members of Team Rashad for divulging the information.

Ultimately though, the proposed matchup between Schaub and Rogers wasn’t changed, and the bout was announced.

The fight began with Schaub looking to keep the fight standing and use his striking to pick Rogers apart.  Rogers, aware of Schaub’s striking abilities, shot-in and gained a takedown shortly into the round.  Initially nullified by Schaub’s guard, Rogers eventually began to deliver some solid shots to the head of Schaub and was able to pass to side control.  However, while then attempting to mount Schaub, Rogers lost his position and was reversed by Schaub who gained dominance.

Schaub then began his attack but Rogers quickly scrambled to get to a neutral position.  During the scramble, Rogers made the mistake of leaving his neck exposed and Schaub quickly pounced, applying an anaconda choke which forced Rogers to quickly tap.

After the fight, much was made of the lack of support from Rampage and his coaches.  Visibly upset, Rampage called a coach’s meeting in which he questioned the tactics being employed by the coaching staff.

Team Evans now remains in control, and has yet to face defeat.
